Use of the Homer Babbidge Library by School Groups
The primary mission of the Homer Babbidge Library is to support the scholarship and research of University of Connecticut students, faculty and staff. A secondary mission is to provide service to Connecticut citizens, when other state, public, and school libraries cannot meet their needs.
In cases where the Babbidge Library resources are unique and meet a special educational need, use of the Library by high school groups is appropriate and welcome. Teachers bringing a class to the Babbidge Library should be prepared to instruct and guide their students while at the library. Librarians are not usually available to provide tours or instruction. Exceptions may be made for groups with formal UConn affiliations, such as Early College Experience (ECE), the Da Vinci Project, the High School Research Apprentice Program, etc.
School groups wanting to schedule visits must contact the School Group Coordinator (SCG) using this form.
Recommended times for visits are during academic recess and intercession hours when the library is not heavily used by University of Connecticut students. Visits are strongly discouraged during fall and spring semester final exams. Library Hours
All school groups arriving at the Babbidge Library must check in with Library Security personnel at the Circulation Desk and must conform to library etiquette and rules during their visit.
